Pre-opening in Montenegro: what counts in the first 90 days

Montenegro is going through a wave of new hotel openings, from large international brands to small, independent boutique projects. For the independent houses, success is rarely decided on opening day itself. It is decided in the three months before.

Three building sites, one schedule

Construction handover, team build-up and brand work almost always run in parallel in practice, not one after the other. This is where many projects start to stumble: the team is only hired once the building is finished, the brand only designed once the team is already working. The result is a soft opening where three things have to be improvised at once.

What should be in place 90 days before opening

The organisational structure and the staffing plan should be settled before the first interviews take place. The brand positioning, meaning how the house differs from its large neighbours, should be decided before the first photos for the website and booking portals are taken. And the service team should have gone through a real trial operation at least two weeks before the first paying guest, not just classroom training.

Where gastronomy is a central part of the house, the wine list and the sommelier training of the service team belong in the same schedule, not as an afterthought once the doors are open. A pre-opening that thinks hotel and restaurant perspectives together from the start saves weeks of rework after launch.
